For the increasing numbers on gluten-free diets, there’s a new cafe at the Gold Creek village, Mornings in Paris, which has ingredients lists to help you check just about any allergy.
Teresa McTaggart, who leaves behind an IT career for her venture into food, says she has a wheat allergy, so for some time has been baking at home and testing recipes on colleagues. “When I’d say it’s got no sugar, no grain, no diary, no wheat, they’d say does it have any flavour? And I’d say just taste it. And it was a hit.”
McTaggart uses agave syrup as a sweetener, and instead of eggs she uses a flaxseed-based replacement, or apple sauce or a non-dairy milk with cider vinegar. Her cafe is also vegetarian, and you’ll find dishes such as quinoa with black bean and corn, served in a tostada shell with guacamole and sour cream ($9.50); or quinoa coconut porridge with pomegranate molasses, banana and toasted coconut ($8.50).
Sourdough toast is the only non-gluten-free offering. Organic coffee and organic milk. Mornings in Paris, in Gold Creek Square (away from the main shopping area), is opening Thursday to Sunday, 8am-5pm, facebook.com/MorningsIP
