Italian$$

An outstanding dining experience in the heart of a shopping centre might seem incongruous, impossible even, but the sleek operation that is Gallery One exists outside the stereotypes. A fabulously stylish interior bedecked in black and gold houses a 6-metre long cabinet groaning with hand-made Italian patisseries along with iconic His & Her chairs modelled on male and female derrieres. Audacious? Certainly. Yet the food is the exact opposite, focused instead on simple Italian fare, prepared very, very well. Wood-fired pizzas have authentic bases topped with the likes of buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto and white anchovies. The pared-back list of antipasti includes molten cheese croquettes, and even the salads, such as fennel, pecorino and pear, are simple, soulful and perfectly balanced. An innovative drinks list along with that stupendous cake cabinet completes the (gilt-edged) experience.
