Contemporary$$

Looking like an architect-designed lean-to, Mondo is an appealing spot, during the day and at night, when breezes make their way through the slatted wooden blinds. Food is Euro-accented and there's an emphasis on sourcing organic produce wherever possible. Generosity of spirit is evidenced in the bowl of tiny wild olives, fruity olive oil and bread brought to the table, backed up by prawn tortellini bursting with prawn and doused in a rich seafood butter sauce spiked with lemon, tiny tomato dice and crisp fried capers. A polenta coating on the zucchini flowers was too heavy for the delicate blooms but the intensely flavoured tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella serve it well. Duck, cooked to rosy pinkness, comes with a rich jus, broadbeans, artichoke and cauliflower fritti; saltimbocca is perfectly seasoned with sage and salty prosciutto partnered by subtle cinnamon potato gnocchi, asparagus and a vivid yellow saffron champagne emulsion. An imaginative dessert menu is well worth investigating.
