Woolworths pulls the pin on more Thomas Dux stores

Woolworths will pull the pin on its upmarket Thomas Dux store in Mona Vale this week, following last week's axing of its Paddington outlet. With Woolies relaunching the stores as Woolworths Metro, the tough medicine of the gourmet kind continues for the grocery sector. Last year the supermarket giant booted another three Thomas Dux stores in Sydney, citing several factors, including poor trading.

Interestingly, the news comes as David Jones has announced a major overhaul of its food offering, which will eventually include standalone food stores. DJs is no stranger to the realities of the sector, launching the Foodchain concept in the early noughties. Coles also had a swing with its Let's Eat food and wine venture.
