Spanish$$

Anada's room is smart and simple: exposed brickwork and concrete floors amplify the buzz of a creative-looking crowd drinking tempranillo and grazing from glazed terracotta dishes. A landmark on hip Gertrude Street, this slender bistro stands out more for its rich Iberian flavours rather than for grand scale or lavish design. The great range of tapas and raciones runs from light and clean through to dense and complex. Start simply with oysters and lemon, move on through char-grilled quail on freekeh and pomegranate seeds. Then, to a bright cleansing gazpacho with a hint of chilli, and delectable whole beef cheek with fava-bean puree. Salads, perhaps baby beetroot with mint and smooth labna, provide lively interludes. Cheery churros with chocolate are a deserving dessert choice, but also consider the range of delicately scented sorbets and icecreams and thoughtful selection of Spanish cheeses. No-fuss staff keep the plates coming, squeezing between tables and bobbing between lively conversations.
