French$$$

Francophiles be warned - Bistro Guillaume will make you giddy with glee. French accents swirl around the elegant dining room, with its signature light fittings that resemble blousy pantalons, and there's champagne by the glass, steak frites and Guillaume's silky Paris mash on the menu. Jaunty green highlights and a one-page placemat menu hint at a sense of fun. There are simple classics - oysters shucked to order, charcuterie - prepared and delivered with care. Rustic pork and chicken liver terrine is lively with thyme, neatly wrapped in a prosciutto ribbon and served atop a lick of Dijon mustard. French onion soup warms the heart, sweet and thick and crowned with a slice of gruyere-topped grilled baguette. Mains might break from tradition somewhat, with dishes like barramundi fillet balanced by spirited carrot and ginger puree and coriander butter. Enfin, three plump profiteroles, house-made vanilla-bean icecream sandwiched in their mouths and covered with a warm, velvety chocolate sauce, poured at the table, prove the piece de resistance.
