Japanese$$

What do Japanese grandmothers cook for breakfast? Grilled salmon, rolled omelette, brown rice and miso, according to Cibi. Traditional brekkies are a weekend-only affair at this spacious gallery/cafe/event space, and Japanese dishes sell out fast, so get in early to beat the arty types who flock here. On weekdays the focus is on cafe-style fare: a burger with a soft crumbled tofu patty, or a carefully made goat's cheese and roasted veg toastie spiked with cumin. Wash it all down with roasted rice tea, then shop for handmade ceramics as cute aproned staff (although sadly, no grandmothers) buzz, zen-like, around the open kitchen.
