As dependable neighbourhood restaurants go, this eastern suburban newcomer has plenty to recommend it. Once inside, the busy corner location is soon forgotten, thanks to the stylish yellow-accented decor and warm service (and perhaps a sneaky glass of prosecco). Chef Matt Beard comes after stints at Maha, Barkers and the Undertaker and his menu reads and delivers beautifully. An entree of crisp confit duck leg croquettes with tiny quenelles of silky duck liver parfait and sweet spiced fig display excellent balance and restraint, while mains such as meltingly tender eight-hour lamb shoulder with textural green olive and pistachio tabbouleh nail it with spot-on seasoning and just enough acidity to lift the richness. Portions are generously share-able - as are the excellent sides - and the comfortable booth seats make a great spot for communal feasting. Some desserts, such as too-chunky pineapple tarte tatin, can falter, but it's not enough to detract from an otherwise delightfully rewarding dining experience.
