Rita's Cafeteria

This is a gleaming, white-tiled oasis of good, Italianish things, positioned in the lower reaches of Johnston Street. The food, at all times of the day, will surprise and delight. There are generous eggy breakfasts, fine to magnificent pizzas, excellent pastas and outstanding sangers, notably braised lamb with herb coleslaw and mayo on a ciabatta roll. A masterful minestrone with orecchiette also makes a splendid lunch. House wines are modestly priced and cleverly chosen, and the small beer list is imaginative. Seven Seeds coffee is expertly made, and the crumble, in an enamel dish, is a pud of distinction.
