One of Melbourne's original small bars, Rue Bebelons is still a go-to spot for late-night chillers and daytime city dwellers 15 years on. Famous for its pastrami baguettes, jugs of sangria and especially for its mind-blowing vinyl collection, this is the kind of place where, once you're settled, hours slip away easily. Its chequered tablecloths and bright red interior are reminiscent of an Iberian hole-in-the-wall and, sticking to that template, the drinks and food are kept simple and well priced. Standard cocktails can be whipped up on request but conversation is the main point at this longstanding hidey-hole.
