The Tramway Hotel

Contemporary$$

If you're after a top-notch pub feed, make your next stop the Tramway. Flaunting a fabulous corner position, this stone-walled stalwart, built in 1873, is decked out with white-washed walls, low-slung bulbs and homely honey-toned furniture. Forget the so-hip-it-hurts service often found in the 'hood; here it's all generous smiles and genuine enthusiasm. Chef Nick Coates' burgers- large but not gigantic- are where it's at. Try the lamb and haloumi number, a venison special with house-made blackberry chutney or the quinoa burger, all served with great hand-cut chips. To drink, opt for a boutique brew or wine from the sharp, largely local list.
