The Village Larder

Contemporary$$

The Village Larder has settled in so well, it feels like it's always been here. Decked out with formica tables and mismatched chairs and with cool art on the walls, it's a local hub. The food is retro with a modern spin. There might be soft scrambled eggs laced with Tuki smoked trout and a good whack of chives, or two patties of 'corned beef hash' topped with soft-poached eggs. Home-made crumpets are juicy and thick with cinnamon butter and made-here, in-season spreads (maybe nectarine jam) and the syrup-soaked golden syrup dumplings are menu fixtures. Any service hiccups, such as misplaced orders, are quickly righted.
