Tom Phat

Asian$$

With its dark wood-panelling, funky music and great cocktail list, Tom Phat could be a beachside Thai backpacker hostel. The menu maintains the chilled south-east Asian vibe with breakfast dishes like black sticky rice with mango and yoghurt, and soft wok-fried eggs with chilli, soy, fried shallots and toast (a surefire hangover cure), and a long and tempting lunch and dinner menu. Highlights might include mild yellow curry with chicken and corn dumplings, snake beans and aromatic basil, and crisp salt-and-pepper tofu with a crunchy pickled vegie salad. Desserts take their cues from street food- layered roti pancake sticky with mango and coconut jam is sublime.
