Beach Road Hotel

14/20

Contemporary$$

This sprawling Bondi establishment aims to cater to all tastes. Pizza bar? Check. Traditional pub bistro? Check. Japanese-American fusion by Stuart McGill, a former Tetsuya's chef turned pioneer of the city's food-truck movement? Er check. So if the bistro's beer-battered fish and chips sound tiresome, head upstairs for Truckstop's sushi on crispy rice or Southern-style blackened snapper fillets with a generous serve of fries doused in chilli salt and smoky cheese sauce. You will be further rewarded by friendly service, designer Alex Zabotto-Bentley's graffiti-fuelled fit-out and house-made beer sorbet topped with frozen skittles and a side of sherbet.
