Belgrave Cartel

Italian

Hipsters get all the best cafes. This quirky hole in the wall is all menu-scribbled chalkboards, retro orange vinyl seating and wooden booth nooks if you can bags one. It also does some terrific breakfasts and lunches, bringing back jaffles - green eggs, pesto and leg ham or excellent baked beans - and doing proper brekkies involving the likes of eggs, bacon, hollandaise, feta, avocado salsa and pancetta with Sonoma bread. There's a healthy Bircher and a Sonoma spelt maple muesli with yoghurt and seasonal fruit. The retro corn fritter stack, with wild rocket and avocado salsa, is definitely worth bringing back into vogue. Coffee, in true hipster fashion, is taken very seriously here.
