Flavour of Ceylon

Asian$$

Servings are large and regulars are on a first-name-basis with staff at this little slice of Ceylon in a quieter part of Parra. The menu offers both Indian and popular Sri Lankan dishes such as biryani and kotthu - the latter featuring chewy roti pieces with well-seasoned chicken and a moist fish patty, plus fried sprat and cashews for extra spice and texture. Be sure to order naan to mop up the thick sauce from the elumus curry (a chef's speciality, with tender goat pieces), and egg hoppers, or complimentary pappadums to scoop up sticky-smoky-sweet eggplant pahe. Finish with the treacle drizzled watalappan, a steamed, unrefined cane sugar-based egg custard pudding, served chilled.
