This stunning whitewashed weatherboard cottage, imbued with all the chic rustic charm a glossy magazine stylist could dream of, has steadily raised the bar in food and service since locals Kassia and Tristan Grier assumed control some five years ago. Local produce is showcased in an entree assiette of chilled avocado soup, seared scallop, tuna tartare, sticky five-spice pork belly and beef tataki. Thai flavours shine in an amuse bouche of betel leaf topped with prawns and fragrant herbs, and in steamed kingfish with red curry paste. Half a duck with lentils from the on-site bakery's wood-fired oven with braised witlof and beetroot jam didn't quite live up to expectations, and the chocolate tasting plate was something of a work in progress. However, with a fromagerie in the new deli next door, the cheese plate with home-baked fig and walnut loaf is a winner. Service is attentive and poised, with just the right mix of city smarts and country charm.
