Mario's

Italian$$

One taste of mamma's homemade lasagne with its thick pasta sheets and messy bolognese sauce and you'll see why this inner-west stalwart is the kind of place that turns one-time visitors into neighbourhood regulars. The modest restaurant has served easygoing locals since 1985. Piping hot pizzas come out quick-smart with simple, traditional options such as marinara and quattro formaggi. Calzone is plump with mozzarella, ground beef, mushrooms, semi-dried tomatoes, roasted capsicum, artichoke heart, parmesan and olives. Pasta, risotto, fresh seafood and chicken tick off all the old favourites and if you can squeeze in dessert, there's gelato, tiramisu and dessert pizzas super-rich in flavour but not at all in price.
