Shenanigans at The Imperial

Good Food hat15/20

Contemporary$$

It seems unlikely that an Irish pub in Maitland would emphasise seafood dishes, but that's a pleasant surprise from this eatery known for good nosh and a splash of Guinness. The food is prepared fresh for each dining session and the results are very good: an exhaustive selection of steaks (with a visual guide to what the chef considers medium); a full compliment of chicken schnitzels and an array of seafood that starts with fresh oysters and runs through excellent barra and salmon and ends in a lavish fisherman's catch. Vegetarians are looked after with risottos, and an excellent wine list lifts this pub above the average.
