Modern Australian$$

Named for Baron Verincourt de Clambe, the first free settler in the region who grew both grapes and coffee beans, The Baron is a breath of fresh air for Castle Towers. Funky cafe by day and even funkier bar by night, it's all distressed recycled woods, gym lockers, packing cases, skateboards and cycles as decor, with a barista-to-bar-to-kitchen counter staffed by a team of blokes in tatts and regulation checked shirts. A Single O caffe latte ($3.50) is milky and sweet, best matched to 'Mum's banana bread', or toasties No.1 and No.2. Single Origin Roasters coffee, tradies' toasties and Mum's banana bread by day; and ploughman's platters, rabbit stew, Dos Blockos lager and single malt whisky by night. Funky cafe by day and bar by night, with Single Origin Roasters coffee and Mum's banana bread mixing it with skateboards, cycles, beer and music.
