Walcha Road Hotel

Contemporary$$$

This is the original gastro pub. Before anyone had ever heard of such a thing, Walcha Road was turning out house baked breads, pizzas and sumptuous desserts, with a chef who is also a baker. Not much changes at this charming nook. The food is always excellent and the menu reads like something from the glory days of French cuisine: duck al’orange, tournedos rossini and deep fried camembert with plum sauce. Soups of the day – tomato and pumpkin – are the best possible versions, the vegetable sides come with cheese sauce and portions are generous without being ridiculous. The whole experience is faultlessly friendly and strangely elegant.
