Japanese$$

On a street of Asian eateries, head here for a lesson in Japanese food 101. Examine the iPad ordering system, then cram in artfully presented inside-out prawn and cucumber hand rolls topped with avocado, raw salmon and bursts of wasabi-flavoured roe. Indulge in top-class sashimi at student prices, or wash down deep-fried mouthfuls of chicken and crisp, thickly crumbed oysters with sake. Not everything gets top marks - beef katsu may sometimes seem tough - but service is a study in friendliness. Prerequisite: squeezing into a packed front room or inching along a bench-lined hallway into a neat back area before tucking in. Bookings advised.
