The Capertee Royal Hotel

14.5/20

Contemporary$$

According to 2012's review, renovations were in the offing here. Well, it's time to start because there's a fine line between endearingly shabby and plain tatty. It's friendly, though, and offers good, hearty home-made food such as a simple but quite perfect vegetable soup that is thick, tasty and bursting with ingredients. A mini rump with oven-roasted tomatoes isn't quite as successful, but the home-made quiche lorraine from the specials board has us oohing and aahing. There's a kids' playground out the back. It's not the Hilton, as a sign suggests, but it is welcoming and worth a look. Renos, we are told are indeed under way.
