Scientific tests have proved that people are nicer to each other in areas where there are pleasant ambient smells, so expect a lovely time at this highly detailed bakery and espresso bar. Perch on a beautifully engineered swing-out-and-swivel stool and watch the baker work his magic, then team a rich and hazelnutty piccolo latte ($3.50) with an Ottolenghi-inspired brunch of soft-boiled egg, fried eggplant, tahini and zhoug on sourdough or an extremely seedy muffin. Look out for chef Ben Abiad's homemade pickles, and the carafes of on-tap 'dranks' (peach soda, perhaps), and just be aware - no tea, no skim and no credit cards.
