Built in 1867, this charming old general store has been beautifully restored, with the charm of yesteryear sitting happily in the welcoming dining room alongside new display shelves offering modern indulgences. Service is country-friendly and quietly efficient, and a huge eight-metre table, once the old shop counter, is just the shot for large groups. Start with a crisp pastry piled with tiny beetroot, onion, local fetta and toasted walnuts, or go healthy with a panzanella salad piled with roasted vegies. Confit duck practically falls from the bones into a sea of pumpkin and orange puree, the richness cut by grilled figs, fig jus and a neat pile of spinach. Crisp-skinned ocean trout nestles nicely into a crab risotto, with an accompanying fennel salad providing a crunchy contrast. The dish of the day would have to be a gorgeous bread and butter pudding filled with lots of rummy raisins - worth a visit all on its own.
