Past the watercress and watermelons, pomegranates and pears, tucked inside an Italian grocery store, is the invariably heaving Cafe Sopra. The Fratelli Fresh/Cafe Sopra concept has become a Sydney institution, with outposts in Alexandria, Walsh Bay and the CBD. The no-booking policy seems to suit Potts Point locals and there’s generally a table to be found. The latest hot spot is a seat beside the sparkling new, wood-fired pizza oven. There will be fights over the last slice of tomato, buffalo mozzarella and basil pizza, with a thin base and fresh, lush curds. Zucchini flowers are rich cheese bombs; while orecchiette is spot-on al dente, tossed with generous pieces of braised lamb neck, carrots and lentils. Service is frantic and frustrating at moments. But faith is restored with an almost perfect, quintessential tiramisu.

And … Pick up a quattro formaggi wood-fired pizza to go, but no phone orders.
