Sydney fans of Aldi are set to score a very 'special buy' when the discount supermarket opens a pop-up wine bar on Friday, July 15.

For just $4.41 (or less than the cost of a single iceberg lettuce), ticket-holders will be treated to an indulgent evening with Aldi's award-winning wines and cheeses at The Trophy Room in the Sydney CBD.

The low price aims to showcase Aldi's affordability, representing the cost of one glass of the supermarket's finest wines and a single serving of its prized cheese platter.

Guests will be welcomed with a gin cocktail, made from Darley's London-style gin, before sampling seven Aldi wines at the bar.

The tasting menu features the crisp, South Point Estate pinot grigio (83¢ per glass); the vibrant and tropical Neve Hawkes Bay & Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc ($1.16 per glass); and the rich, chocolatey A.C. Byrne & Co McLaren Vale Organic & Biodynamic Shiraz ($1.83 per glass).

Aldi's recent price report shows a basket full of groceries is 15.6 per cent cheaper than its competitors, equating to a saving of more than $1555 per year for the average Australian family. With inflation tipped to hit 7 per cent by the year's end, it's a timely tip for cutting back on your weekly spend.

"At a time when consumers are cutting back, they don't have to compromise when they shop with us," says Jason Bowyer, Aldi wine expert and buying director.

"Our wines have been created by some of the best winemakers in the world and judged by the harshest critics to take home many of the most prestigious awards in the industry.

"The Trophy Room is a first for Aldi Australia, demonstrating that a fine wine and dining experience doesn't have to dent your wallet."

The Trophy Room will run for four sessions over two nights, finishing up on July 16.
