Canberra now has a rooftop bar, with the opening of The Howling Moon.

Located on level six of the Canberra Rex Hotel on Northbourne Avenue the bar has hosted a number of events since late 2017, and is now open to the public.

Given Canberra's brief period of warm weather, the bar is (understandably) glassed in, with 180 degree views towards Black Mountain and south across the lake towards the Brindabellas, and you can also see straight up to the sky above.

A wall of fake greenery greets you when the lifts open on the top floor, leading to marble-look tables, bar stools and more comfortable couches positioned so visitors can soak up the views.

The small bar is tucked away in the back corner with four beer taps - with three local brews - and a basic wine list. A simple menu offers up snacks, a couple of pizzas, a club sandwich, salt and pepper squid, and a cheese board.

Down a spiral glass staircase on level five there is a second space with its own bar and seating area, filled wth velvet tables and luxe mirrors.

The Howling Moon is at Level 6, Canberra Rex Hotel, 150 Northbourne Ave, Braddon. Open Thursday 4-11pm, Friday and Saturday 4pm-late and Sunday 2-10pm.
