Australians love their steaks. We consume an average of 25 kilograms of beef per person each year, placing us in the top 10 countries for beef consumption.

But eating meat just got a whole lot more expensive. Rising fuel prices have pushed the world beef price to record levels and in Sydney, the cost of beef rose an eye-watering 8 per cent in February. But a cheap steak can still be found, if you know where to look.

Whereas some restaurants charge hundreds for steaks that glitter gold, your local is serving humble rump steaks and chips for as little as $12.50 mid-week. For the eager carnivore looking for a good pub feed, without breaking the bank, we've rounded up the best steak night specials across metropolitan Sydney.
