Attention young chefs of Australia! Applications for the Josephine Pignolet Young Chef of the Year have been extended to Friday, June 15. The award is the ultimate accolade for a committed and talented young cook.

"To say that winning the award was an honour is an understatement," say last year's recipient, Kylie Millar (Attica). "To be recognised by hospitality heavy weights and Damien Pignolet was, for me, a form of acceptance into the industry and a huge encouragement."

Applicants must submit an essay of up to 500 words outlining their food and cooking philosophy, along with a short video (up to two minutes) describing their ultimate meal. The Good Food Guide will fly successful finalists to Sydney for an interview with the judging panel.

Applicants must be Australian permanent residents aged 30 years or under on August 31, 2018. They must send their essay, resume and a copy of their current passport or driver's licence showing their date of birth, to myffy.rigby@fairfaxmedia.com.au by June 15, 2018. Applicants cannot be a head chef or the owner of a food business.

The Good Food Guide Awards, presented by Citi and Vittoria, will take place later this year.
