Yes Sydney, another American-style burger joint has landed - this time, with glazed doughnut buns.

The menu includes plenty of burger add-ons.

4 Ounces Burger Co has opened in Leichhardt, serving quarter pounders stuffed with a tower of meat, American cheese, lettuce and pickles, all with a decent side of eco cred.

Chef Rory Donnelly (former head chef of Arboreal Kitchen in Wales) has seemingly thrown every ethical concept into the mix: "From becoming plastic free, looking into reducing waste, investing in renewable energy and water services, paying a living wage, [to] sustainable working hours."

Goods are made in-house or sourced from local suppliers - think The Bread and Butter Project for the buns, Hereford Red (beef), Challenger Smallgoods (meats), Karma Cola (drinks), Westmont (pickles) and Donut Papi (doughnuts, obviously).

The Leichhardt store is the second for the company, with its first opening in Alexandria in July, and interstate openings planned for coming years. The venue is BYO while the liquor licence is pending, but bar manager Mitchell Coleman promises a line-up of Australian wines, ciders, craft beers and spirits from labels such as Archie Rose, Poor Toms Gin, Grifter Brewing Company and Willie The Boatman.

As for the burgers, "the common" is a go-to classic of burger pattie, pickles, cheese mustard and ketchup on a milk bun; "the ghostface" heats things up with jalapeno aioli; and "bird man" is for fried chicken fans. Other add-ons include maple bacon, hot sauce, liquid cheese, deep-fried truffle mac and cheese and loaded fries - and yes, glazed doughnut buns.

Vegans can try the southern fried smoked tofu burger, with smoked sesame cheese and house sauce. Fat-on-fat never felt so guilt free.*

You'll find lightly seasoned dry-aged beef patties (made from Angus-Hereford and stored for six weeks) served on a Hokkaido-style milk bun from St. Malo Bakery; fried chicken sandwiches with kaya butter; and strawberry and orange-brown sugar lemonade (but alas no shakes - you'll still need to swing by the truck if you're craving Mister Gee's baklava number).

Watch the specials board for non-burger surprises to come.

Open Wednesday to Sunday, 5.30pm-late.
