Good news for denizens of Brunswick East. For the next six weeks (at least), Babajan is selling Turkish boreks, sucuk pides, colourful salads, Persian love cakes and more from its new Lygon Street pop-up.

Owner Kirsty Chiaplias has wanted to open a takeaway-focused spin-off of her Carlton North cafe for years. "We do so much takeaway at Babajan and it's such a little space," she says.

While Chiaplias' long-term goal is to open a borek shop, this concept-testing grab-and-go pop-up is selling everything from Babajan's stacked counter, plus bread, dips, jams – even the eggplant and Aleppo pepper pickle.

There's also filter coffee from Proud Mary, Turkish coffee and tea, and, hopefully soon, local wine and beer. "I want it to be the complete package," says Chiaplias.

Better news? If the pop-up goes well, it will become permanent – either at this site or another close by.
