Betty's Bar P. Q. (bar, pizza and barbecue) on the south coast of New South Wales is mobilising their farmstead food for passers-by. A paddock-to-caravan-to-plate operation sees food currently being served from a van under the Hampden Bridge.

The eatery's name reflects the hearty meals to be cooked at Betty's Bar P. Q. Opening in March, the caravan site will include a bar and restaurant serving pizza and meats. "The entire menu will be based on wood, smoke and fire using seasonal, local vegies," says owner Martine Folden.

Folden and her husband Gavin were two of the founders of Single O coffee and claim to be the "Godparents of the Sydney coffee scene". After selling the Single O business and retiring to the country, they're still keen on the bean. At the farm they roast their own coffee, which goes by the name of the Kangaroo Valley Coffee Cooperative.

The van's food is comprised of free-range, house-made,seasonally oriented and locally sourced ingredients. The eggs on their egg and bacon roll are fresh from the farm's chooks. They pickle their own beetroot and cucumbers and sell other preserves.

Various other small scale local farms supply the farm with its ingredients, minimising waste by harnessing excess fresh produce. The lamb and pigs come from Redleaf farm in Fitzroy Falls and the milk is processed exclusively in Berry on the South Coast.

Kids and dogs can explore the huge grassy area and the Kangaroo river surrounding the Betty's van. There's plenty of parking for cars, trailers and other caravans.

Open 6am to 3pm daily. Closed Dec 25.
