With Meu Jardin launching in the city this week and Bitton Rose Bay serving its first salmon rillettes and l'hamburger on Monday, French is shaping up as 2020's comeback kid.

The eastern suburbs offshoot of the two-decade-old Bitton original in Alexandria has landed on the corner of Plumer and O'Sullivan roads in Rose Bay.

If the venue is a little late (owners David and Sohani Bitton had planned to open in January), the classic French menu is timeless.

There was a time in Sydney where you were never more than a few hundred metres from a menu with a souffle, but in recent years major food precincts have popped up without any French restaurants.

David, who has successfully ridden through and developed a successful line of products under the Bitton banner, believes tastes are turning back to the classics. He also has plans to run vegetarian nights.

Open daily 7am-4pm (dinner Wed-Sat to follow).
