What's the lowdown?
After finding success with its Canadian dive bar model in Bondi, the Stuffed Beaver is opening an outpost north of the Bridge. The Crows Nest diner is fitted out with bar stools and parlour booths perfect for watching American football and hockey on a 120-inch purpose-built flatscreen.
The Crows Nest venue features pre-loved bric-a-brac similar to the Bondi original. Stuffed Beaver group manager Johnny Elizondo says the Sydney community has played a pivotal role in the interior styling of this space, donating everything from a 1980s Mongoose BMX to "incredible wall art".
When does it open?
The Stuffed Beaver opened for burgers, beer and televised basketball on January 8.
What is there to be excited about?
Lots of things if you're into local and American sports. That giant screen is set to broadcast key events from the worlds of gridiron, basketball and football (all codes).
Marrickville's Philter Brewing is providing the complete range of its beers in addition to a new brew designed especially for the diner. The "Beaver Brew" is described as a "sessionable ale" and something "between a pale and a lager".
As an extension of this collaboration, the Beaver will open Philter's barrel room later in 2018. This will allow customers to enjoy a range of aged beers which have been developed exclusively for the venue and poured straight "off the wood".
What's on the menu?
North American staples and comfort foods including hot wings ($12), poutine ($15), hot dogs ($10), house-made tortilla nachos ($15) and burgers such as the "Make Americana Great Again" number with beef, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo and pickles ($17).
