"Half a store of chef's knives and the other half sake, what could go wrong?" jokes Chef's Armoury owner Leigh Hudson. In encouraging news for the sake-obsessed, Hudson will open what he maintains is Sydney's first sake store in Stanmore in July. Chef's Armoury's Melbourne store already has the sake-knife mix.

Hudson has reconfigured the reception area at the new Chef's Armoury store on Percival Street in Stanmore as the store, and will use an atrium area to run sake-focused classes.

"I really want to push the message sake goes with other cuisines, not just Japanese," he says. "Sake doesn't fight with food in the way acid in wine fights with acid in food."

With around 100 sakes on offer in Sydney, they'll stretch from an entry-level sake "they'd drink on the train in Japan" ($7.90) to a $188 Senbazuru Daiginjo. Japanese beer is also part of the package.
