When former Quay Restaurant head pastry chef Juno Zhu jumped out of restaurant kitchen, the plan was to open a patisserie with a difference, with her best friend and fellow pastry chef, Vivienne Li.

In 2017 Dulcet Cakes and Sweets was born in Burwood. Their creations feature Asian flavours such as matcha, durian and black sesame. They go easy on the sugar, and it helps that the products are easy on the eye.

Now they've taken the message (and the sweet creations with it) to a new audience, opening a store in Haymarket.

Dulcet's signature, durian-flavoured 20-layer crepe cake has followed. There's a soft serve made using a specially imported matcha powder, a Galaxy chocolate mousse cake, which is made to mirror the solar system, as well as a taro-flavoured swiss roll.

The minimalist interior is decked in turquoise and marble surfaces, alongside dessert-filled cabinets and high-cushioned seats.

Open Daily 11am-10pm.

Diethnes is a place for family dinners, long lunches, end-of-financial-year steam-blowers and ordering enough dips to feed a Trojan army.
