Gungahlin has a new burger joint, and the burgers are seriously big.

Oscy's Burgers opened on the weekend, serving up creations that sit somewhere between American and Australian style.

Owners Sandra Sergi and partner Scotty Taylforth almost opened the venue three years ago down near where Bunnings is now, but it never eventuated. Over the years they kept working on it, and now the eatery is open in Marketplace Gungahlin, near Gelatissimo.

Neither has worked in hospitality before but Sergi, who does the cooking, spent plenty of time in the kitchen with her Italian family since the age of 10, and she said Taylforth, "has always wanted his own burger place".

Named after one of Taylforth's sons, Oscy's Burgers has an American feel to it with burgers, hot dogs, wings, shakes and fries.

There are currently eight burgers on the menu, with beef, chicken, lamb, salmon and a vegetarian option, and they will add four hot dogs and buffalo wings to the menu in the coming weeks.

Sergi said that what sets their burgers apart is her special sauce, which has been in her family for years, and she makes fresh daily.

Everything is available for takeaway, but there is seating for about 20 in store, and they plan to expand with more seating outside.

Oscy's Burgers is open Monday to Friday 11am-9pm, and weekends 11am-10pm. Marketplace Gungahlin, 33 Hibberson Street, Gungahlin. facebook.com/oscysburgers.
