It missed its planned December debut, but Bondi's new Fish Shop is up and grilling in its location near the Beach Road Hotel.

A spin-off venture from the team behind Japanese-inspired salad pioneer Fishbowl, they chose the same beachside suburb where Fishbowl began its journey.

The brief was to create a "fine-casual" dining experience, with a "bliss point" between restaurant and bar, and a good old-fashioned fish shop.

Head chef Joel Bennetts (Pier, Bistrode CBD) is getting some promising early notices, touting sustainable and difficult-to-access seafood on a menu inspired by the Mediterranean and coastal Middle East. Yum.

Open daily noon-10pm.
