Frederic and Fred's Bar, the European-style double-act from the children of Jacques Reymond, has opened in inner-eastern Cremorne.

Antoine, Edouard and Nathalie Reymond have run two traditional bistro-style French restaurants, Bistro Gitan and L'Hotel Gitan, for years.

The new neighbouring establishments are the result of more than two years' work.

The more formal Frederic, open for lunch and dinner, will offer French, Spanish and Italian dishes. Fresh flavours include rock flathead ceviche with dill and confit sweet potato and veal tartare with pinenut cream and pickled shallot.

Next door at Fred's, the "cheeky younger brother" to Frederic, fresh pastries and coffee in the morning lead into minute steaks and seafood from lunch until late evening.

Having renovated the Cremorne site, just off Richmond's busy Swan Street precinct and not far from Chapel Street, the Reymonds say they hope to capitalise on new residential developments and offices in the area.

If family name and menu aren't enough, there's a sunlit terrace beneath the heritage-listed brick facade.

Fred's Bar will open daily from 7am-11.30pm. Frederic will open daily from 11am-3pm, 5pm-late.

9-11 Cremorne Street, Cremorne. 03 9089 7224.
