It's a far cry from Times Square, but Garema Place now has its own New York-style sandwich shop.

Selli's has opened on the corner facing Garema Place, where a supplements store was previously, with bagels, sandwiches, hot dogs and shakes.

The short menu keeps things classic with deli-style sandwich fillings, hot dogs and a few puns thrown in - sandwiches include the cheese louise, fricken chicken and began vurger.

A display cabinet has pastries and sweets, including classic American cakes, available by the (generous) slice. Drinks-wise there are shakes, coffees and sodas using house-made syrup.

The space has been given a black and white fitout, with plenty of indoor and outdoor bench seating, and a large mural inside by Canberra street artist Houl proclaiming 'All meals lead to lunch'.

It's the first venue for owner Lauren Sellick, who has worked across bars and cafes in Canberra, and her whole family is involved in some way (the venue's name is a nod to their surname).

Selli's is open seven days, predominantly for breakfast and lunches, with extended trading hours Thursday to Sunday and possible plans for an evening menu.

Selli's, Shop 5, 88-96 Bunda Street, Canberra. Open Sun to Wed 8am - around 3pm, Thurs to Sun 8am - late.
