Altius, a beloved CBD coffee nook that won many fans during its seven-year life, has made a tree change.

Now it's Bendigo's turn for Market Lane coffee and 5 & Dime bagels, as owners Hannah and Jarrod Pageot bring some of their Flinders Lane DNA to their new home.

Hannah's parents are Bendigo natives and after a rough couple of years for Melbourne's CBD cafes, the Pageots decided to move their business and young family to the country.

They've found a pint-sized shop on leafy High Street, using every part of the 20 square metres to brew filter and espresso and chat with customers over the L-shaped bar.

"We had a really beautiful sense of community in Flinders Lane, and we'd really like to bring a sense of that to Bendigo," says Hannah. "We feel that's important, particularly after COVID."

A window seat and footpath seating offer great people-watching potential, and they've applied a calming eucalypt green and dusty pink colour palette inspired by their new surrounds.

Bagels filled with the likes of cream cheese, salmon, capers and onion will be added soon, while the pastries on offer also come from 5 & Dime, baked just around the corner from Altius' former HQ.

Open Mon-Fri 7am-2pm, Sat-Sun 8am-1pm, 110 High Street, Bendigo, altiuscoffeebrewers.com.au
