Ripponlea Food and Wine returning, bigger than ever

"Kinda classy, kinda hood" are the watchwords for the refashioned Ripponlea Food and Wine and they'll be emblazoned in neon on the back wall when the restaurant reopens on November 20. The three-year-old comfort food hangout is adding final touches to a major renovation that has seen it take over the dancewear shop next door, smash down a wall and add a big central bar and carpeted private dining room.

Seating will increase from 40 to 80, with the prime spots the semi-circular green velvet booths in the wood-panelled bar. The same menu will operate throughout the venue with the focus on approachable flavours presented with easy finesse – think crisp crostini piled with cured meats, a signature ceviche with pomegranate seeds and a half-chicken with pinot gris caponata. The expanded drinks list will focus on Victoria, with wines by the glass switched up daily.

Locals are thirstily waiting for it to open, but it will also be a perfect meet-and-mingle rendezvous for those heading to Attica, just up the road.
