Rosso Pomodoro in Balmain has always been a stickler for the pizza rule book. No half and half, no ham and pineapple, only Italian mozzarella and only Italian toppings.
It is a mantra that has served the pizzeria well, with Rosso Pomodoro routinely popping up on lists of Sydney's best pizza.
Owners Ketty Laffi and Giancarlo Bazzocchi are spreading the pizza love with the opening this month of a branch of Rosso Pomodoro at Bondi Junction in Sydney's east.
"It's exactly the same menu [as Balmain]" Laffi says.
It's next door to the duo's Osteria Riva on Bronte Road, sliding into a neighbouring venue that's been a revolving door of Indian, French and Nepalese food.
Transplanting some inner-west pizza pedigree in Sydney's east is a clever move, and Rosso Pomodoro Pizza Bar wants to expand the brief.
"We also have plans to do aperitivo," Laffi says.
