With predictions Sydney's Green Square will eventually be more densely populated than Karachi or Mumbai, the hospitality venues in the area were always going to start to flow. And from today, postcode 2017 has another new hospo venue, f(x).

Equal parts cocktail bar and snazzy eatery, f(x) slides into the Koichi Takada-designed Infinity by Crown Group building, the precinct's architectural calling-card. And there's an impressive name behind it: David Allison, owner-chef at STIX.

Allison, who worked with Neil Perry on the first and business class meals for Qantas, has a sprawling Sydney food empire that includes a cafe in Marrickville, an events company and even a produce farm on the Hawkesbury.

Earlier this year, STIX went into business with Fink, producing meals for the home from Sydney chefs including Peter Gilmore and Lennox Hastie.

With food expectations high, what does Allison have planned? When the full menu launches next week, STIX Pastries will sit alongside chicken, corn and chilli congee and a dish of miso cod with asparagus.

After meeting Crown Group chairman and chief executive Iwan Sunito through Neil Perry, Allison says he was struck by Sunito's passion for the area. "He's so energetic and positive, architecturally I thought his buildings were incredible."

Both felt the area deserved somewhere you could have a glass of champagne and caviar, so Allison and Sunito's collaboration was born, with STIX overseeing the project.

"I don't have experience in bars, so we've brought in specialists [for that side of the business]," Allison tells Good Food. Still, he's tipping it will become the best of its genre in Sydney's inner-south.

The f(x) moniker might share its name with a South Korean girl band and a mathematical equation, but Allison says it's unique: "There's nothing quite like it in the area."
