Just in time to catch the end of a long, hot, spritzy summer, Chinatown's most entertaining bar will reveal a new gin-focused rooftop garden on Monday, February 12.

Union Electric, the '90s-hip-hop-and-Bill-Murray-loving mod-tiki bar in Heffernan Lane, will initially be serving a similar menu to downstairs – fresh juice highballs made with craft spirits, along with local beers and a handful of wines.

But up on the second floor – which features a gigantic palm tree and native Australian botanicals, many of which feature in Australian gins – there will also be a greater focus on light, gin and vermouth-based drinks.

Sadly, Chinatown stalwart Kum Den closed last year, putting an end to your ability to order in dumplings, but there are dips from the Queen Victoria Markets and tomato-mozzarella toasties for sustenance.

Union Electric's rooftop gin garden be open noon-1am daily from Monday, February 12, at level 2, 13 Heffernan Lane, Melbourne, unionelectric.com.au.
