Touchwood: superfoods, morning grains. Simon Schluter

TOUCHWOOD, 480 Bridge Road, Richmond, 9429 9347. Daily breakfast and lunch

You expect salads at lunch and Touchwood comes through with Mexican chicken with charred corn, and a superfood salad with beans and kale but there's also a Morning Grain Salad with chai-soaked raisins and cumin yoghurt.

Low on sugar and big on vegan, this new western cafe has pick-and-mix salads that change every day.

ROSETTA, Crown Promenade, Southbank, 8648 1999. Tues-Sun lunch, daily dinner

There are so many big ticket items to enjoy on this expansive, seafood-studded menu but don't overlook the contorni. Zucchini with farro, charred broccoli with almonds, and the wood-roasted carrots with stracciatella and burnt butter are salads, sure, but they are super deluxe.

Uncle in Collins Street: funky numbers.

UNCLE, Level 1, 15 Collins Street, Melbourne, 9654 0829. Mon-Fri lunch, Mon-Sat dinner

One of my all-time favourite restaurant salads is the funky burrata and tomato number at Uncle, jazzed up with barrel-aged fish sauce and pickled papaya.
