After seven years and multiple transformations, Andrew McConnell has called it quits on the St Kilda site that's currently housing Supernormal Canteen.

"We can confirm that Supernormal Canteen, St Kilda, is on the market for sale," said a spokesperson for the group. "We have decided to consolidate our focus on our existing venues and projects."

The Fitzroy Street restaurant opened in 2011 as Asian-accented Golden Fields (the original home of the New England lobster roll and The Age Good Food Guide 2012 best new restaurant), before becoming French bistro Luxembourg in 2014.

When McConnell announced the closure of Luxembourg in 2017, he said: "I love St Kilda, I believe in the location but Luxembourg wasn't trading as well as we'd hoped."

Supernormal Canteen, which replaced Luxembourg in 2017, appears to have been a last-ditch attempt to make the site work.

There is no fixed closing date for Supernormal Canteen, and it will continue to trade as normal until its sale has been finalised. The original Supernormal at 180 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, is unaffected.
