If you've ever jostled for a table at Baccomatto Osteria you'll be surprised to hear the busy Surry Hills eatery is joining the growing posse of Sydney restaurants closing their doors.
It'll serve its last tonnarelli cacio e pepe on September 29. A popular haunt with barristers, politicians and artists, Baccomatto is owned by Michael Stevens and Mauro Marcucci, one of the early crew at Melbourne's famed Caffe e Cucina.
Stevens says a DA has long hung over the Riley Street restaurant and they've recently been given notice by the landlord that development of the building is finally proceeding.
"We're committed to the area; I've already started looking at other sites to relocate," Stevens adds.
