The high-profile closures just keep coming for Chippendale's Kensington Street.

The Chippendale spin-off of Marrickville's booming Barzaari restaurant will shut its doors on August 31, lasting less than a year.

It took over the space from Kensington Street Social, the Sydney restaurant of British celebrity chef Jason Atherton.

While Barzaari Marrickville remains open, the future of its Chippendale site is up in the air.

Its owners won't want it sitting empty like the home to the short-lived Silvereye, the high-end restaurant with a Noma chef in the kitchen that shut in 2016 and – some pop-ups aside – has fallen off the dining radar.

Thankfully the precinct has a pin-up in chef Clayton Wells – it's difficult to imagine what it'd be like without Automata.
